Have you ever....

Been on a fishing trip with 5 kids and 4 adults?? We were outnumbered.

And it was great.

Time was slower, or so it seemed, as fishing was our only task at hand. Things were slow enough, in fact, to take note of some things ….

that our kids are only small for a time

and that one day they probably won’t desire us to be their camping companions anymore.

BUT for this weekend,

they were small,

and wanted to be with us more than anyone in life,

and couldn’t reach the pedals to drive themselves to the E.R. for stitches 5 minutes after arriving at the camp-site (it really happened!)

I’m trying to ruthlessly eliminate hurry from my life so I can enjoy my children
while they are where they are.

How can you be still and enjoy your kids this weekend?

  1. I think I'm going to try to eliminate hurry from my life too. Thanks for the idea!

As far as what I will do to be still and enjoy my kids this weekend....
If you know me, you will know that I am constantly pick up around the house and constantly telling my kids to pick up after themselves. This weekend, I will just let it all pile up! :-)

  2. My hope is to stop and play a few board games with the kids. Jess and I are constantly running around with the kids, and when we get home we are pooped. They aren't though :). Makenzie always wants to play something, no time like the present!!

  3. Actually did that Sunday night. She just needs to vent and we turn off everything and pay attention to her. Let her talk and we just give a encouraging words when asked. It is great. Because she loves and respects us more than ever before. God is so Good!! So glad you had a wonderful time and you are taking the time to Enjoy your family!! With Love, Ceci and Mike.

  4. Well, we moved across town this weekend so it was utter chaos but we did take time to set up the boys room and pray with them before bed. Just this week, I played tea party with Legos and have played a lot of hide and seek. With Andrew starting kinder, the challenge is two-fold: spend quality time with Andrew in the evening and spending time with Ethan during the day so they both feel loved. Will be fun to find creative ways to be a family in this new phase!

  5. I don't have kids, I'm an uncle and I enjoy watching my friends' kids get older, but I suppose more than anything there are two insights we can all pay attention to. Time management requires prioritizing our lives, and we should regularly look at our priorities and make sure they actually reflect our values.
